Overzealous Macs

This just in: my sources tell me thought various rogue elements are out to extol Senator McCarthy's virtues at the expense of General of the Army Douglas MacArthur's. In case anyone didn't know, MacArthur was the most decorated soldier in American history, certainly one of the most decorated in the history of all warfare, absolutely the most decorated man of World War I, the finest tactician and strategician of World War II, the most clairvoyant and brilliant of the interwar years, at least according to renowned strategist and military historian BH Liddell Hart, the architect of a prosperous and free Japan, and the sole reason that South Korea exists today as an example of the potential of the Koreas-- which should be united, as MacArthur hoped for, and as Truman desperately tried to prevent...

Though McCarthy and MacArthur were both Republicans, only one had bravery or courage. MacArthur. Though both had their nominal home state as Wisconsin, only one served their country through sacrifice and intellectual feats of greatness. MacArthur. And though both were in the limelight for more than just fifteen minutes, MacArthur shone far brighter, for far longer, and bears no stains of infamy on his shoulders. He was not reckless or conniving in exposing the Communist threat. MacArthur didn't just talk about Formosa. He was busy trying to save it. He didn't talk about Kim Il Sung. He crushed him on the battlefield. He wasn't given the chance to best Mao Zedong, but rest assured we know what the outcome would have been.

I thank McCarthy for his ability to point out the Communist threat, though it erred a great deal, and though his inability to understand statecraft led to his downfall before much good could be done. How hard is it to stay in the Senate if you're bloviating 24-7? MacArthur never had those issues. Indeed, it was his superior statecraft that dictated his actions as SCAP in Japan and in trying to goad Truman to fight a war, and not a police action. He never veered from the course, never faltered.

Thank you Douglas MacArthur.
